Ask me anything. Anything anything? Ok, not anything anything. That’d be a bit much. Instead, recent webinar attendees asked our two experts everything they wanted to know about Progress DataDirect Hybrid Data Pipeline.
Senior Solutions Engineer Aaron Burg and Software Architect Steve Veum, who is also one of the creators of Hybrid Data Pipeline (HDP), held an open Q&A session to demonstrate the capabilities of HDP and answer all of our webinar attendees’ questions.
Hybrid Data Pipeline lets users consume or share data in a timely and compliant manner regardless of the application or the data location. Or as Aaron likes to say, HDP is like a “Swiss army knife.” It’s easy to configure and deploy, and as an encrypted single point of access, helps enterprises maintain security and compliance with cloud data and even when accessing on-premises data behind a firewall.
Aaron walked us through multiple ways businesses today use Hybrid Data Pipeline:
Aaron also explained why users of Salesforce Connect would be interested in HDP’s OData capabilities. One example he gave is how HDP’s data source grouping feature lets users consolidate different data sources so they can save money when they have to buy different endpoint connections from Salesforce.
After walking us through all these use cases, Aaron summed things up with a final idea—“Next, next, finish, install.” Hybrid Data Pipeline users love the simple set up of the tool, especially when they don’t have to get IT involved to open complex VPN tunnels, etc.
As Aaron said, “We support a pretty wide range of data sources, everything from a number of flavors of Hive, Redshift, SQL Server, Oracle Postgres and sources such as Salesforce or Oracle Sales and Service. We also have a really cool feature that leverages our Autonomous REST Connector, which allows you to connect to REST end points that return JSON and have SQL access to those.”
All this information led us to a flurry of questions from people listening in on the webinar. Do you cache or store the data? (No.) What else besides Salesforce supports OData? (Power BI, Tableau, Excel ... ) How is Hybrid Data Pipeline licensed? (Depends on how many nodes and data sources you need, so you should come talk to us one-on-one.)
We got through at least a dozen thoughtful and interesting questions from people considering using HDP. If you’d like to hear the full presentation including the Q&A, the webinar “Ask Me Anything: Connectivity for Hybrid Data” is now available on-demand.
