What are Cookies?
A cookie is a small, encrypted data string our server writes to your hard drive that contains your unique information. Cookies in the Progress Properties may collect a unique identifier, user preferences and profile information and membership information. Progress’ server will query your browser to see if there are “cookies” previously set by the Progress Properties. A cookie cannot be used to access or otherwise compromise the data on your hard drive.
How We Use Cookies and/or other similar technologies
We may use both session cookies (which expire once you close your web browser) and persistent cookies (which stay on your computer until you delete them) and other technologies to help us collect information such as domain names, IP address (which may consist of a static or dynamic IP-address, and will sometimes point to a specific identifiable computer or device), browser type, operating system, access times, referring/exit web site addresses, information regarding your experience with our Progress Properties, and other data (“Other Information”) to enhance your experience using the Sites. We may use cookies for various purposes, including:
If you do not want Progress to deploy cookies in your browser, you can opt out by setting your browser to reject cookies or to notify you when a web site tries to put a cookie in your browser software. This will not affect your ability to use the Progress Properties, except in some cases where cookies are used as an essential security feature necessary for transaction completion and might be required to complete certain functions in the Progress Properties. In most cases there are no industry standard options for disabling cookies without completely disabling the functionality and features they add to the site. It is recommended that you leave on all cookies if you are not sure whether you need them or not in case they are used to provide a service that you currently use or may wish to use in the future.
Third Party Cookies
In some special cases we also use cookies provided by third-parties to help us to understand how you use a site and ways that we can improve your experience. These cookies may track things such as how long you spend on a site and the pages that you visit so we can continue to produce engaging content.
Strictly Necessary Cookies
These cookies are necessary for the website to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. They are usually only set in response to actions made by you which amount to a request for services, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in or filling in forms. You can set your browser to block or alert you about these cookies, but some parts of the site will not then work. These cookies do not store any personally identifiable information. Examples of this type of cookie include:
Performance Cookies
These cookies allow us to count visits and traffic sources so we can measure and improve the performance of our site. They help us to know which pages are the most and least popular and see how visitors move around the site. If you do not allow these cookies we will not know when you have visited our site, and will not be able to monitor its performance. Examples of this type of cookie include:
Functional Cookies
These cookies enable the website to provide enhanced functionality and personalization. They may be set by us or by third party providers whose services we have added to our pages. If you do not allow these cookies then some or all of these services may not function properly.
Essentially, these cookies allow the Progress Properties to remember information you have entered or choices you make (such as your username, language, or your region) and provide enhanced, more personal features. These cookies also enable you to optimize your use of the Progress Properties after logging in.
Functional cookies may also be used to improve how the Progress Properties function and perform, to enhance and customize your interactions with the Company, and to help us provide you with more relevant messages, including marketing communications.
Targeting Cookies
These cookies may be set through our site by our advertising partners. They may be used by those companies to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant adverts on other sites. They do not store directly personal information, but are based on uniquely identifying your browser and internet device. If you do not allow these cookies, you will experience less targeted advertising
We may use these cookies to show you ads for our products and services that we think may interest you on any devices you may use and to track the performance of Company advertisements. The information provided to third parties does not include personal information, but this information may be re-associated with personal information after the Company receives it.
Progress also contracts with third-party advertising networks that collect IP addresses and other information on the Sites and Services, from emails, and on third-party web sites. These technologies may recognize you across the different devices you use, such as a desktop or laptop computer, smartphone or tablet. Third parties use this information to provide advertisements about products and services tailored to your interests. You may see these advertisements on other web sites or mobile applications on any of your devices. This process also helps us manage and track the effectiveness of our marketing efforts.
Social Media
We also may use social media buttons and/or plugins on this site that allow you to connect with your social network in various ways. For these to work, we may set cookies through our site.
Disabling Cookies
You can prevent the setting of cookies by adjusting the settings on your browser (see your browser Help for how to do this). Be aware that disabling cookies will affect the functionality of this and many other websites that you visit. Disabling cookies will usually result in also disabling certain functionality and features of the Progress Properties. We recommend that you do not disable cookies.
Opt Out Preference signal
The residents of some US states such as California may choose to activate Opt-Out Preference Signal on their browsers which is known also as Global Privacy Control (GPC). To download and use a browser supporting the GPC browser signal, click here: https://globalprivacycontrol.org/orgs. If you choose to use the Opt out preference signal, you will need to turn it on for each supported browser or browser extension you use. If we detect such signal, e.g. from California, we`ll stop sharing or selling data for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Please note that it is not always possible to make connection between your browser and a profile associated with this browser or your account (if applicable) when you send the opt-out of “sale” / “sharing” of your personal information request or GPC signal. This means that if you have not yet opted out of “sale” / “sharing” your personal information, we recommend you submit the Do Not Sell or Share Personal Information form.
